Step 6: Tailor security tools to your policy
Now you have a solid foundation for managing and enforcing your network security policy. It is time to tailor other security tools (e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection devices, etc.) to your network security policy.
The least vulnerable port is a port that is not turned on. So why create firewall rules or intrusion detection alert triggers that correspond to vulnerabilities within a particular port that you know no machine on your network has active?
By tailoring your network security devices to the network security baseline you save in both time and money.
